Product Overview
Thermoelectric materials are functional materials capable of directly converting heat into electricity by utilizing the movement of charge carriers and phonons. Their operation relies on three fundamental thermoelectric effects: the Seebeck effect (heat to electricity, 1794), the Peltier effect (electricity to heat, 1834), and the Thomson effect (heat absorption/release in a conductor, 1851). Conversion efficiency is evaluated by the dimensionless figure of merit, ZT = σS²T/κ, where σ is electrical conductivity, S is the Seebeck coefficient, T is temperature, and κ is thermal conductivity.
Material System: PbTe-Based Thermoelectrics
PbTe is an intermediate-temperature thermoelectric material exhibiting outstanding performance between 300–900 K. It possesses a NaCl-type crystal structure, a bandgap of ~0.3 eV, and complex electronic properties. Strong lattice anharmonicity caused by Pb atoms results in high Seebeck coefficients and low thermal conductivity.
